I love to go off on long jaunts whenever I could, and of course it’s much more enjoyable with the right company. The only problem is that it’s not easy to find someone who wants to go off on an expensive trip to look at a painting in a museum, or read crumbling tombstones in a church yard ! Do you know how difficult it is to find someone who would willingly do that? I think that’s why God blessed us with family and best friends, regardless of how crazy they think you are they still humor you!
My best friend and I have had quite a few jaunts together, the most recent was our too-short trip to Europe. One of my cousins was tying the knot so I decided that I’ll make the trip and try to see a bit of Rome as well. I’ve always wanted to visit London because so many of the stories I read as a child were set in London. Stories of the great Roman empire, the gladiators and the Vatican have always fascinated me as well and I couldn’t wait to see the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci’s magnificent works of art.
My cousin’s wedding was fantastic! the ceremony was hosted in the historic and beautiful Convocation House and Chancellor’s Court in the Bodleian Library at Oxford. The grandeur of the setting was the perfect backdrop for the intimate ceremony. If you’re a Harry Potter fan you would know that scenes of the library at Hogwart’s were actually filmed in the Bodleian.
After the wedding and amazing reception at the Jam Factory, we spent a leisurely day exploring Oxford before leaving for Rome.
To our delight, the flight to Rome included a long layover in Lisbon! we couldn’t have planned it better! We did a bus tour since that seemed the best way to see the city with a minimum of fuss, what a lovely day that was! If you ever decide to take that flight , I’d recommend this city guide.
