Tales from the Qrypt – A Perfect Date to Remember

Couple's feet

Standing on the deck I look up at the cloudy sky, breathing in deeply to calm myself. His warm hands cover both of mine on the rail. I can feel the warmth of his body barely touching mine, his lips lightly brush along my bare shoulder. I know he is waiting, he’s waiting for me to make the next move but he’s also taking his time, savoring that moment. The knowledge hover between us, it’s rare for me to have this moment, to know! know that he is enjoying the anticipation as much as I am and we’re in sync, there is no rush.

Tales from the Qrypt – A Perfect Date

I clearly remember our first real date, he had invited me onboard the catamaran for dinner. I remember the dinghy ride from the dock, the starry night sky and the chill in the air that caused my skin to goose bump.  He had set the table and there was soft jazz filtering from hidden speakers. The setting was perfect and the first sip of the chilled wine was deliciously crisp and flavorful. Can I remember what we said? I guess it was the usual things that people say to each other – how was your day? I don’t know but we spoke, we ate and laughed at inconsequential things.

When he fed me the first taste of ice cream after dinner it felt daringly intimate and when his hand casually brushed mine as he refilled my wine glass it made me shiver. Did he do that intentionally? Was he looking at my lips intently as I spoke? Was he looking at the quick rise and fall of my breasts? If it wasn’t intentional then why did I feel so flushed as though my blood was magically heating up under the surface of my skin? Can he hear the thump of my rapid heartbeat? Does he know that I’m sipping my wine because my throat is suddenly parched?

Tales of the Qrypt – Business Part 4

Later as I lay on the beach after my swim, I marveled at how much had changed in the space of a few short weeks. I thought about Nicole and I wondered how and why she had gotten into her line of work. She was shrewd and I suspected that her every move was carefully thought out, calculated. My reverie was rudely interrupted by droplets of water falling on my forearm which covered my eyes. Peeking from under my arm I saw that a man was busily toweling himself off much too close for comfort. I sighed, with at least a mile of beach stretching away in both directions – he had no reason to be this close to me! I decided I was going to pretend I was asleep and maybe he’ll go away.

I lay there quietly and listened to the sounds he made as he vigorously shook out his towel, and rummaged around in a shopping bag. “Hello, did you enjoy your swim? I saw you go in earlier” I couldn’t believe it! He was speaking to me as though he didn’t notice I was pretending to sleep! I had the insane urge to giggle! Reluctantly I took my arm down and looked at him. He was big and tall, at least 6’-4” dark and solidly built. He didn’t sound local so I assumed he was a tourist. “Hello, yes I did thank you” I said politely as I stood up and began to put my skirt on. “Yes it’s a lovely day for a swim isn’t it? I like to come down here earlier in the morning but I’m glad I came late today or I won’t have met you! I’m Mark by the way” he said extending a large hand. I shook the hand “Hey I’m Sherry I said dryly”.
