That annoying belly fat

I met up with a friend on the beach recently and we spent a couple of hours just getting caught up with what’s been happening in each other’s lives. The conversation eventually turned to how dissatisfied we were with our beach bodies. We both complained of that annoying belly fat! We lamented that everything we had been doing to whip ourselves into shape has not worked. Eventually, we made a pact to work out each weekday morning.

This morning I lay in bed idly staring up at the ceiling fan thinking about our conversation. I realized that we had been so preoccupied with what was wrong with our bodies that we totally ignored what was right!  My friend is younger than I am and while she is on the plump side after two babies, she is by no means obese. About 5’-8” with a perfectly white smile, even-toned dark skin, and a full head of natural locks, she is naturally pretty. Yet not once did I hear her say “I love my full breasts and firm thighs” both of which she is blessed with! It made me wonder – how often do we ignore our blessings?

The wanderlust is back!

I get antsy if I’m in one place for too long. It took me a while to figure that out, years in fact! I would begin to procrastinate especially when it comes to doing those self-improvement tasks I’ve set myself. Here are just two things on my self-improvement list, one is – Exercise every day and the other is – Read a chapter or watch an educational video every day. Those are the things I procrastinate about whenever I have been stagnant for a while.

How do I procrastinate? I get more engrossed in my work life in order not to find the time to do the personal stuff on my list. This helps me feel less guilty, I just say to myself ‘look how much I’ve accomplished this week! I try to convince myself that I am fine without the exercise or the reading but that little judgemental voice in my head is never quieted. It makes me become even busier creating work for myself to do. Crazy right? but that is what the routine of everyday life can do to me.

I need a break from my regular routine

Do you have a list of self-improvement tasks as well? I would genuinely love to know if you procrastinate as much as I do and what causes you to do so. My level of procrastination is trending high at the moment so I need a break from my regular routine. I need to indulge my wanderlust, maybe follow a path without knowing where it ends. I’d like to savor new delicacies and watch the sun go down over new horizons.

Obviously, the pandemic is a major factor in deciding what my next travel destination will be. Brazil is experiencing an ongoing crisis with new COVID-19 cases, deaths and, even new COVID variants as reported by The Lancelet. My thoughts and prayers are with Brazil, India, and other parts of the world that are severely affected by the pandemic. I pray that vaccines will be available for everyone who needs it.

My next travel destination

My next travel destination cannot be Guyana unfortunately. Guyana is a fabulous destination but the CDC does not recommend travel to Guyana at this time. There is a danger of contracting and spreading new variants EVEN IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED! I have family in Guyana including my aged mom who I have not seen in almost 4 years and I feel the urge to visit with her. Alas, this is obviously not the sensible thing to do because chances are I may put myself and my family at risk.

Yet, the wanderlust is back! this means back to the drawing board to figure out an alternative plan. Luckily, the US is still an option, I can visit my walkabout partner in New York and we can do a leisurely US road trip. That is always fun and it provides ample opportunity to explore and stop to smell the roses whenever we please. If I leave in late June or early July the weather will be perfect for this!

If all else fails I can take a few days off and wander around here in St.John’s Antigua! I can even check into one of Antigua’s resorts and enjoy island life in a super luxurious setting. Hmmmm…. there are a few options to consider. Stay in the loop, I will make my decision soon and you will be the first to know.

Explore South America

When most people hear ‘South America’ they immediately think of Columbia or Brazil. Columbia is well known for its aromatic coffee, stirring music from artists like J Balvin and Shakira, and of course the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar! Brazil is famous for world-renown soccer players Pele and Neymar, beauties like Gisele Bundchen, and its colorful carnival. While all of this is true, South America is so much more than Columbia and Brazil and there is much more to Columbia and Brazil as well! If you’re fresh out of vacation or adventure ideas I invite you to explore South America.
