What if Tomorrow Never Comes?

Today I saw a beautiful rainbow and I was desperately trying to get a photo with my phone (which has a crappy camera). Someone walked up behind me and said, “you’re so full of yourself, taking selfies!” obviously she hadn’t looked up at the sky and seen the big beautiful rainbow! Yes, I know, we have so many more important things to do that we sometimes forget to look up at the sky.

Work deadlines, worry about the future, financial stress and the niggling fear that something important is slipping through the cracks…. It all creates a jumble of constant narrative in our subconscious that effectively distract us from the present. We don’t see rainbows, or smell raindrops falling unto parched earth and we don’t cherish precious moments spent with loved ones because we neglect to just BE in the moment. What if tomorrow never comes?

Today I learned that a close friend lost her mother, when we spoke on the phone, she was heartbroken. She said she was sad because her son would never know what it feels like to be embraced by his grandmother, but she was also grateful that she had always let her mother know how much she loved her.

I think that those who openly express love and affection are comforted by the conviction that love is eternal.  Love keeps those we love close to us, always in our hearts.

Each time I see a rainbow it reminds me of how insignificant I am in the grand scheme of things. Rainbows remind me that everything I’ve ever worried about is not as important as it seems, just being in the present is enough. It reminds me that it takes more effort to frown and be angry than it takes to smile and be happy. It reminds me to be present, to enjoy moments of happiness, to listen, and to be grateful for everyone who is willing to listen to me.

Every day is a gift, a fresh start, and a chance to stop and smell the roses and express love before it’s too late. Don’t wait for those you love to depart this earth to say how much you loved them in beautiful verse and song. Bring them flowers today, sing them songs and tell them how much they matter today, what if tomorrow never comes?

Has Covid-19 Kept you Single?

Almost every area of our lives has changed drastically over the last year and for some, those changes have been a blessing but for others a curse. At the risk of sounding disgustingly optimistic, I must point out that it has not been all bad.  Recent events have forced us to think outside of the box and I am amazed at how innovative we humans can be and how quickly we adapt!  Creatives are capitalizing on the opportunity to introduce a slew of useful apps and new technology, and we are quickly learning how to utilize these for work, study and other areas of everyday life.

What have you learned in 2020?

Finally, we’re at the end of what most are describing as the worst year ever. What have you learned in 2020? and how will what you learned colour how you approach the new year? I think most of us learned that some of the stuff we once considered important is not so important after all. You know what I’m talking about – maybe there’s an expensive outfit hanging in your closet with the tags still on? My point is, sometimes we squander precious resources on unimportant things when we can do much more meaningful things with those same resources if we employed them elsewhere.

Here’s what I learned – time is short!

Time is a valuable resource, one we sometimes take for granted. As I reflect on the last few months I can’t help but notice how fleeting those happy and contented moments were. I learned to be grateful for the moments I will forever treasure – a perfect moment of oneness with a loved one; a rainy day in bed watching a Netflix series with my cat Sadie curled up in my lap; that triumphant moment when I finally complete an overdue project; that last blaze of amazing colour as the sun slips below the horizon… it seems the best moments are all fleeting! If you doubt that, well just think about your last orgasm….. see what I mean? That is exactly why I resolve to spend more time on the things that will benefit me in the long term and bring me joy.
