Yes, I know that we are experiencing the ‘second wave’ of the pandemic. Between me and you, I don’t quite know what that means. Is it now the ‘second wave’ because there are outbreaks in locales that did not previously have any cases? I’ve no idea! What I do know is that we must continue to be careful. Careful means washing our hands often, wearing masks, and staying the required distance apart. How difficult is that?
The Show Must Go On
Despite the foregoing, life must go on. That is to say that those bitten by the travel bug like I am, will try as much as possible to continue exploring amazing destinations! I promised myself years ago that I’ll have a grand adventure each year as a birthday present to myself. Each time I see a beautiful photo or read a fascinating story about a country I haven’t yet visited, I add to my list. Those places on my bucket list are whispering in my ear and I dream of my next big adventure. As this year’s birthday present, I carefully picked a destination with relatively low infection rates. Now I’m anxiously watching the travel alerts and keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that I won’t have to cancel my travel plans.
I’m excited that I’m finally going to see one of the natural wonders of the world – the Grand Canyon! This is a big deal for me, I grew up reading Luis L’Amour’s tales of the wild west. I loved his larger-than-life descriptions of the canyons, gulches, and deserts of Arizona. The furious battles fought between the native American Indians and the early settlers who sought to lay claim to their land, added a grim reality and authenticity to his tales that held me spellbound. I will soon be walking on some of that same land, I will see its beauty with my own eyes, visit Indian reservations, and meet authentic Indians!
Nothing beats the anticipation and excitement I feel once I have tickets to a great adventure in hand! This time the anticipation is much more intense because of the pandemic. Although the airlines will waive change fees if I cancel the trip, the fact remains that I will still be out of pocket! I’m not so anxious about the hotels, I’ve carefully selected hotels that allow me to book now and pay at check-in. They also have a convenient 24-hour cancelation prior to check-in date policy. The only thing left to do is decide which guided tours I want to book and pack some warm clothing for the trip.
I Love the Word Adventure!
My best friend and partner in crime will be joining me, which means the trip will be even more fun! As much as I enjoy solitary jaunts, having someone who understands why this trip is so exciting for me and who would enjoy it as much as I would, is a definite plus! this means as much to her as it does to me and we are both looking forward to an enjoyable adventure.
Don’t you just love the word ‘adventure’? I feel a little flutter of excitement in my stomach each time I say it! Grand Canyon here we come! We’ll be leaving on November 21st if all goes well -I pray it will. I will be sure to post photos and videos so stay tuned!
