Yes, girls have more fun! well that’s they would have us believe but apparently the fun level has been declining over the years… Wait what?!
In numerous studies females scored higher than males in standard tests of emotion recognition, social sensitivity and empathy. This is a good thing right? yes but apparently those very factors may cause women to suffer from depression! Why? Well from all the unexpressed anger and resentment !
Why are women angry and resentful?
Think of all the relentless social and moral pressure to be empathetic, nurturing and forever cast in the role of caregiver. The real issue here is ‘society’ is it not? we are all so mindful of the ridiculous standards set by ‘society’ that it’s constantly messing with our mental health. It’s ironic that this ‘society’ we live in fear of is people just like us!
Why are we not more focused on our own personal happiness and less on what others think?
I think that question begs input from someone more qualified than I am to hone in on how the human psyche works. According to Michael J. Formica, M.S., M.A., Ed.M. in his article Why We Care About What Other People Think of Us “In looking out, rather than within, our sense-of-self and sense-of-place become clouded.” It’s no wonder women are not having as much fun as they used to.
Wait a minute! I’m afraid I don’t quite agree…
There has been a gradual shift in the roles women play in society and in the workplace over the past decade. Do you know that men were top dog in ALL of the Fortune 500 companies at one point? as of May 2020 a record total of 37 Fortune 500 CEOs are women!
In response to these changing roles, several reputable publications that serve the modern proclivities of strong female executives were launched. Among them, Forbes Woman, an online magazine for business women with focus on investing, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and lifestyle.
So DO girls have more fun?
To my mind, women have found much more interesting, intellectually stimulating and lucrative ways of having ‘fun’! Traditionally fun has always had a major element of play but what if the entire concept of fun has changed over time? Fun is anything that engenders a sense of enjoyment and fulfillment is it not? So the notion that taking a well-deserved seat at the table is not fun for women is very narrow minded to say the least!
In fact, this new breed of woman has modern notions of what fun looks like. Fun is everything from envisioning innovative business models to creating non-traditional opportunities for women to thrive and excel. Fun is involvement in philanthropy and community development and lets not delve too deeply right now into how women utilize volunteerism to travel the world! Fun is being instrumental in galvanizing policy changes that affect the future of science, technology, healthcare and climate change. In fact fun is positively impacting anything that can help make the world a better place for generations to come.
Between me and you I think the modern woman is also bringing her A game to the bedroom! Just think about it, who comes home high on the success of intellectually challenging negotiations to instantly morph into a timid mouse? Not any of the women I know! I’ll leave you to imagine what men can expect from that kind of woman. Your mind is not playing tricks on you, girls have more fun!
