Tales from the Qrypt – Brandy Part 3

The walk to the Pantheon gave us an opportunity to take in the sights along the way. I marveled at the signs which were evident everywhere that the new Rome was built upon the old! In some instances, there were ancient stone steps leading to underground levels that were sealed off for safety.

In other areas, the paving stones on the streets were hundreds of years old.  I had a new appreciation for archeologists. I totally understood why they are so passionate about unearthing relics of ancient civilizations.

I was half awake idly going over the dream in my head, it was a familiar dream. I can clearly remember that I’m on a train but where am I going and who am I with? the details are frustratingly elusive.  Each time I have this dream it ends the same way, in my dream I’m telling myself please, please don’t wake up just yet!  I am with someone I know very well and we are going to see someone or going to stop something? There is an urgency of some sort, but it always ends the same way.  I wake up in the middle of the seemingly important mission with a feeling of …………regret? or maybe failure?

My eyes flew open abruptly and  I quickly sat up and looked through the porthole. We were moving! I scooted off the bed and headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I could hear the anchor chain rattling as it was being wound up on the winch.  I hurriedly pulled on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and went up the short flight of stairs to the galley.

That evening our flight to Rome was relaxed and comfortable, the service was surprising good considering the reasonably priced tickets we had gotten. I would highly recommend Norwegian Air which operates out of London Gatwick to Rome Fiumicino. The only drawback is that the cost of checked luggage is not included so you’ll have to be a notoriously light traveler like I am.

We arrived late that night and took a taxi to the Quirti Vatican Relais, our home for the next 2 days. The bed and breakfast is located along a picturesque tree-lined street in what is referred to as the ‘old town’ and is within walking distance of The Vatican. When we arrived that night I was struck by the huge ornate wooden doors that guarded the main entrances of the buildings on both sides of the street. I had never seen such huge doors, they appeared to be about 8Ft. wide and 10 Ft. tall!
