Tales from the Qrypt – Life on Deck Prt 5

The following day we dropped anchor in beautiful St. Lucia! We were going to walk about a bit and check out some of the sights. I was excited to see the Piton Water Falls and the Sulphur Springs at Soufrière.  I pulled on a tank and sarong over my swimsuit then I realized that I hadn’t packed any  walking shoes! I had actually taken them out while I was packing for the trip then I’d decided not to bring them.

This was one occasion when traveling lightly wasn’t well thought out.  Luckily Eddie had some weird shoes – a cross between sandals and sneakers with wide velcro straps. I was thankful for them although I had to strap them tightly to my feet because they were a size too big !

Tales From the Qrypt – Life on Deck Prt 4

Life can be crazy fun but we don’t always see it, we get so caught up in the mundane that we forget that fun is there to be had. Have you noticed that when you ask someone ‘how are you?’ they immediately start talking about issues at their job? But you didn’t ask about the job, you asked – how are YOU? that makes me sad.

We shouldn’t live to work; the job is what you do so you can afford to really live.  Ideally, we should find a way of generating income by simply doing what we love to do, although this is not as easy as it sounds! finding a job that matches our unique talents is a good compromise.  I always advise the younger crowd to stay open to possibilities. If you’re offered a job which you have absolutely no idea how to do – be honest about your lack of knowledge and accept! you’ll be earning while you’re learning and that’s always the smart thing to do, anyway, as I was saying…

Tales from the Qrypt – Brandy in Rome

The Spanish Steps were not difficult to find. If you’re adventurous like us and you love exploring on your own without the benefit of a guide, you can use your phone to navigate the sights without getting too lost. If you are afraid you may miss out on something good or if you just feel more comfortable doing a guided tour,  you  will find Get Your Guide very helpful.

The Piazza di Spagna is surrounded by mostly 6 story villas. At the foot of the steps is the flat where the famous English poet John Keats lived during the latter part of his life. The Trinità dei Monti which is the church, sits at the top of the Spanish Steps. It is said that the Spanish Steps were built to link the Trinità dei Monti which was under the patronage of the King of France, with the Spanish Piazza di Spagna below. The Fontana della Barcaccia sits at the foot of the Spanish Steps in the middle of the piazza, it is a sinking boat fountain. Yep, you read that correctly!
